Himes named Master Showman

Evelynne Himes was named the Alger County Fair’s Overall Master Showman at the annual livestock show on Friday, Aug. 4. “It’s just amazing,” Himes said. “I appreciate all the help I’ve had to win this.”

Himes won multiple divisions, including her favorite animal in lambs. She also won the hog division, which is unique because she did not plan on entering her swine into other fairs in Marquette and Escanaba this show season.

The livestock show is one of the first events of the fair each year, allowing local livestock owners the opportunity to showcase their animals both for showmanship and for market values. Between cattle, sheep, and swine, there are 14 categories for the livestock show.

Entries have grown significantly in the last couple years. The fairgrounds also added a new show arena for the fair and the Ben Lauren Memorial Livestock Show held in July, which included more pens for goats, lambs and pigs.
