U.P. State Fair continues

The 95th annual U.P.

State Fair continues today through Sunday, Aug. 20 at the U.P.

State Fairgrounds in Escanaba. The largest fair in the upper peninsula, a number of Alger County residents attend and showcase in the larger competitions after the Alger and Marquette fairs.

Rock River sets public hearing

The Rock River Township Planning Commission has a special meet on Monday, August 22 at 7 p.m. at the Rock River Township Hall.

The meeting will include a public hearing regarding proposed amendments to the long term and vacation rental ordinance, a polarizing topic for the township.

Two extradited from Nigeria regarding U.P. teen’s death

Two of the three suspects accused of a sextortion plot leading to the death of a Marquette teenager have been extradited from Nigeria and now in the United States. According to the U.S. Attorney General’s Office in Grand Rapids, the two were arrested after allegedly extorting Jordan DeMay, leading to DeMay’s suicide.

Provost named U.P. Veteran of the Year

Marquette resident and U.S. Marine Jim Provost was recognized as Upper Peninsula Veteran of the Year at the U.P. State Fair earlier this week. Provost is a six-time medal awardee while serving in the Vietnam War.
