AC3 Barn Dance Saturday
Alger County Communities That Care (AC3) will host a barn dance at the MSU North Farm barn on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 4-8 p.m.. The event will include square dancing, a pie and cake auction, cornhole tournament, children’s events and more. The event is free to the public.
‘Two books’ writer Wednesday
Kelsey Ronan, author of “Chevy in the Hole”, will speak at the Munising School Public Library on Wednesday, Sept. 27. Ronan is one of two authors included in the “Two Books, Two Communities” program shared between the Munising and Marquette libraries. Event starts at 5:30 p.m. in the library. A discussion on the book will happen Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m., also at the library.
Chatham water leak fixed
A major water leak that has impacted Gladstone Street in Chatham has been identified and fixed, according to village staff. The leak had previously been found, but needed partial closure of the water system to fix the pipe. All systems are reporting as normal for the small municipal water system.
West Nile virus found in Marquette
Two hawks were found with the contagious West Nile virus, according to the Marquette County Health Department, which makes it likely that the disease is in mosquitos in various parts of the central Upper Peninsula. Public is asked to stay diligent to potential side effects of the disease in humans and to use mosquito repellant and long clothes while outside.
Sault Ste Marie MSP shooter arraigned
James Kamal Itani, a 39-year-old male from Orlando, was arraigned in 91st District Court regarding the arson and subsequent shooting at the Sault Ste Marie Michigan State Police post on Sept. 6-7. He was charged with one count of terrorism, one count of third-degree arson, 11 counts of assault with intent to murder and multiple weapons charges. Bail was set at $5 million dollar bond.
