Munising was named one of the Best Fall Towns in the U.S. for Foliage by Country Living magazine, one of the latest accolades for the community for the area’s natural beauty.

“Nestled on the southern shore of Lake Superior, this Upper Peninsula town’s beautiful waterfalls get a bright makeover once fall rolls around,” the article wrote about the area.

Munising was ranked tenth of 55 communities across the country. It was one of two Michigan locations, with fellow Upper Peninsula community Ontonagon placed at 33rd. With most of the other locations in the top ten listed in New England states, Munising is also the top-ranked location in the Midwest. Pioneer Valley, Mass. was listed as the top Fall town in the ranking.

With warm weather for early October and a strong reputation for seasonal colors, the area is expected to receive a tourism boost until the leaves are all gone. Tourism is currently down for the 2023 season compared to pandemic years, but increased outdoor recreation activities in October has consistently lengthened the season locally.
