Branden Daniel Klyk, a 34-year-old Trenary man previously found guilty of torture and criminal sexual conduct, has been sentenced to a minimum of 22 years in prison, as announced by Marquette County Prosecutor Matt Weise.
The sentencing took place on Thursday in Emmett County, where Klyk received the following penalties for each of his crimes: Torture: 22-40 years Criminal Sexual Conduct – First Degree: 22-40 years Unlawful Imprisonment: 10-15 years Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm Less than Murder by Strangulation: 6-10 years Domestic Violence – Third Offense: 3-5 years Klyk will serve these sentences concurrently, which means he will serve the time for all these charges simultaneously. In addition to his prison term, he will be required to register as a sex offender and will remain under electronic monitoring for the rest of his life.
The case dates back to last June when police responded to a distress call concerning a domestic violence incident on Fury Street in Gwinn. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a victim who had suffered harm. However, Klyk had fled the scene at that time.
Two days later, law enforcement authorities located Klyk, who subsequently turned himself in. It was at this point that the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office authorized eight felony charges against him, encompassing a range of offenses from assault and larceny to torture and criminal sexual conduct. Additionally, Klyk faced a third offense domestic assault charge.
