Old landmark to be razed
The Alger hotel, at the corner of Superior street and Lynn street, one of the city’s oldest landmarks, is to be torn down and the pine lumber of which it is built is to be sold for new building construction.
What is now known as the Alger hotel was built about forty years ago by Henry Russell and was called the Russell House. The case was initiated at the end of August, when guns traced to an owner in Traverse City were turned in to a law enforcement unit in Marquette County. Once officials there learned the guns had likely come from the owner’s camp on Cooks Lake Road, the case was turned over to Alger County.
The case suspects were identified by chance, however, through ATV complaints registered with the Michigan State Police at the estimated time of the thefts.
