The following updates happened at the 11th Circuit Court motion day on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the Alger County Courthouse.
A pretrial conference was held in the matter of Julie Ann Boxley, who is facing charges over an alleged attempt to set a person on fire. Further conferences were scheduled in December after awaiting additional evidence from the state crime lab.
Cullen Randy Cohen pled guilty to larceny in a building and malicious destruction of property over $200 but less than $1,000. Sentencing is December 5.
Kennedy John Segerstrom was sentenced to 93rd District Sobriety Court after pleading guilty to one count of home invasion – third degree and breaking and entering without permission. Both Prosecutor Rob Steinhoff and Indigent Defense Attorney Lily Harmon stressed that alcohol was the primary factor in the case and that the public would best be served in sobriety court. He will pay $1,724 in court costs and fees, credit for 26 days already served and 18 months probation.
Corey Vincent Horvath, who is facing two charges of child abuse – second child, one count of interference with electric communication and three counts of domestic violence, was in court for a status conference. A show-cause was given after lack of payment for the last four months over a GPS tether. According to Steinhoff, comments from CPS and victim are that the no-contact order has been upheld, so the tether was removed. Horvath will still have to pay outstanding tether fees. Additional scheduling is paired with a probate court case, but a three-day trial is expected in February.
