100 Years Ago – The Munising News – Oct. 26, 1923 Locals push for seasonal properties CC Peck, proprietor of the McDougall Tire Shop, has issued an illustrated circular calling attention to summer resort advantages of Munising and vicinage and offering for sale sites for summer cottages and hunting lodges. The same will be given a wide distribution and is another stroke of business in the right direction. Every piece of mail leaving Munising should carry a leaflet with a message along the same line. It would pay big dividends.
80 Years Ago – The Munising News – Oct. 29, 1943 Must remove fish shanties A new law, in effect this year for the first time, and which requires the marking and removal of shanties or other structures or shelters used for fishing through the ice is being brought to the attention of ice fishermen by F.A. Westerman, chief of the state conservation department’s fish division.
The new law requires the name and address of the owner to be written legibly where it can be seen easily on the outside of the fishing shanty or shelter and that the structure be removed before ice conditions make removal unsafe. Violation of this law constitutes a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of $50 and costs, 30 days in jail or both.
