The Munising City Commission met on Wednesday, November 1 at Munising City Hall. The following decisions were made, all of which were unanimous:
• The city approved the Ice Fest Street Party on Friday, February 9, 2024. This will be an event on Maple Street, outside of East Channel Brewing Company and coincides with Michigan Ice Fest;
• Mayor Mike Nettleton reappointed Travis Cross, Richard Bowerman II and Angela Gerou to the Downtown Development Authority. All three are already serving on the DDA, but their terms ended;
• An invoice for $18,262.95 was paid to GFL to offset trash bag stickers. The city has been subsidizing the cost of trash removal while the contract for curbside garbage and recycling was bid and awarded. Changeover to the new garbage system is targeted for December;
• Various budget adjustments were made. This is a quarterly review of finances after projects come over or under budget. In total, all changes fit within the total operating budget of the city;
• Marina rates were approved. Marina rates differ based on a floating schedule provided by the state. Munising’s 2024 marina rates will remain the same as the 2023 season.
The city commission will have three meetings this month, with one meeting to install the new city commissioner on Monday, November 13. Another meeting on Monday, November 20 is the regularly-scheduled second meeting of the month. Both meetings will be at 6 p.m. at city hall.
