The annual Starry Starry Night event will be Friday, Nov. 24 in Grand Marais. The event encourages people to buy local in the Grand Marais area and will have carolers, hot chocolate and more before the parade at 8 p.m. in downtown Grand Marais.

Receipt raffle begins for Rekindle Any receipt from Alger County businesses will be accepted for the annual Rekindle the Spirit Grand Giveaway. The promotion, to help people buy local during the holiday season, will accept receipts dated Nov. 23-Dec. 14. Receipts can be turned in starting Monday, Nov. 27 at the Chamber of Commerce office in Munising.

Solar workshop Tuesday

“Solar 101:An introduction to solar power in the Upper Peninsula” will be held on Tues. Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. inside Gallery Coffee Co., discussing the renewable resource in the area. The event is free and hosted by the Alger County Renewable Energy Solutions & Michigan Environmental Council.

Munising Lions/ UPPCO Lighting Contest announced The Munising Lions Club will be judging holiday lighting displays on Friday, December 15 from 5:309:00 PM. Please contact Lion Jolene at (906) 387-4693 if you are a new participant.

Salvation Army bell ringers needed Do you have an hour to volunteer to ring the bell? The Munising Lions will continue its Salvation Army Bell Ringing Campaign December 7-9 and 14-16 from 9 AM – 6 PM at Pat’s Foods. Please call Lion Kandee at (906) 387-1696 to sign up.

Fill the Fire Trucks scheduled The annual Fill the Fire Truck food drive will be December 2 from 10 a.m.-noon. Firefighters from Munising, Munising Township and Au Train Township will go around the neighborhoods to pick up donated non-perishable food items to donate to local food pantries. The time of the event was moved up to not conflict with other holiday events going on that day.
