100 Years Ago – The Munising News – Dec. 7, 1923 Carmody & Tidd of Munising have taken over the Ford garage agency and salesroom in Newberry, heretofore conducted by Mr. Grover. The new firm will be known as Newberry Motor company, and is backed with an abundance of capital to carry on business. Mr. Tidd informs The News that they will carry a complete stock of cars and are planning an aggressive sales campaign.

75 Years Ago – The Munising News – Dec. 9, 1948 City “Dolls-Up” for Christmas Munising is going to have a community Christmas tree! Reviving a once annual and popular costume, the city public works department chopped down a “big fella” this week and trucked it to the firehall where it will be set up in a few days.

Electricians were working yesterday hooking-up street decorations in the business section of town and that “Santa Claus Lane” will start glittering in a few days.

50 Years Ago – North Country Times – Dec. 6, 1973 Yellowjacks sting Trenary Even though Trenary came back strong in the second half, unforeseen complications prevented them from pressing the advantage to make it a win against the Perkins Yellowjacks with the final tally of Perkins 78 Trenary 71.

Mark Branstrom and Dan Richards of Perkins each scored 26. The Comets’s scoring was spread more evenly with four players in double figures: Donald Aho 19, Mark Hager 13, Terry Kallio 12 and Mike Begovac 10.

25 Years Ago – The Munising News – Dec. 9, 1998 Ducks Unlimited, Forest Service join efforts on Scott’s Marsh Restoration of Scott’s Marsh, in the Munising District of the Hiawatha National Forest, has been approved and will soon begin under the directions of Ducks Unlimited.

Located approximately 11 miles southeast of Munising, Scott’s Marsh is an important wetland community that benefits waterfowl and a host of other wetland dependent wildlife. Improvements were necessary after water control structures have deteriorated and are inoperable and the dike embankment itself has been heavily damaged by burrowing muskrats.

10 Years Ago – The Munising News – Dec. 11, 2013 New Munising Facebook page takes off by Amanda Ingraham A new group page on the social media site Facebook has taken past and present Munising residents by storm. The open group, called “You know you are from Munising if…,” encourages members who have lived in Munising to share their stories of times gone by in the central U.P. town.
