Munising is gearing up for its 5th Annual Market Walk, a community- driven initiative aimed at promoting healthy living and supporting local farmers and artisans. This year, the event is set to take place at the Munising Tribal Health Center’s Walking Track, located upstairs at 615 W. Munising Ave. The Market Walk is a FREE program open to Tribal Members and all Alger County residents, fostering a sense of community and well-being.
From January 29 to May 1, 2024, or until all available tokens are distributed, individuals can participate in the Market Walk between 4:30-8:00 pm, Monday to Friday. The unique aspect of this initiative is that participants can earn tokens for every mile walked. These tokens, valued at $1.00 each, can be later redeemed at the Munising Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market held at Bay Shore Park on Tuesdays from 4:00-7:00 pm, running from May to October.
The Munising Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market, in collaboration with the Alger Wellness Coalition and the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, seeks to encourage physical activity and healthier eating habits. The initiative is made possible through the support of the Sault Tribe’s Good Health and Wellness in Indian Country Grant, with funding from MSU Extension Building Michigan Families for the Future Endowment Grant.
Participating walkers will be limited to a maximum of 50 tokens each. It’s encouraged that individuals make an effort to redeem their tokens within one market season to ensure everyone benefits from the program.
The Market Walk not only promotes physical activity but also supports local farmers and artisans, creating a symbiotic relationship that strengthens the community’s overall well-being. Lace up your walking shoes and join the movement towards a healthier, more vibrant Munising!
