On January 19th, 2024 the Alger County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Michigan State Police, raided a house on West Onota Street, Chatham, MI, pursuant to search warrant. The search yielded significant evidence of drug activity, including methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Further, a large quantity of gamma butyrolactone (GBL) was discovered on the premises. GBL, street name “liquid ecstasy” or “cherry meth”, is a common date rape drug that is used by a perpetrator to subdue their victim. Use of the drug can lead to difficulty breathing, memory loss (amnesia), being conscious but unable to move, and loss of consciousness—especially when it is combined with alcohol or other drugs.
