Morel Season is in our sights

Maybe we can hunt and find the delectable jewels of Spring early this year? All we need is rain and warm, sunny days, right? For the beginning mushroom hunter, morels are among the easiest to find and identify of the thousands of wild mushrooms found in Michigan. Like all mushrooms, morels require specific conditions of temperature and moisture to grow. We’ll cross our fingers for those conditions to help us out. According to findings on the DNR website; Large burn sites in forested areas are ideal for morel mushroom hunting, especially in burned areas where jack, white or red pine once grew. Grassy and other non forest areas are not as likely to produce morels. Best of luck to all who enjoy the hunt and the rewards!

Accessible recreation opportunities

The Accessibility Advisory Council consists of private citizens, appointed by the DNR director, who demonstrate a clear interest in improving accessibility to Michigan’s natural resources. The council provides guidance to help the DNR develop, manage and plan opportunities for those of all abilities to enjoy Michigan’s natural resources. You can find additional accessible recreation opportunities by using Recreation Search. Here you will find more detailed information about accessible features. From here you can choose from many different activities and facilities with accessible options. They have a strong focus on making Michigan’s natural resources available for people of all ability to enjoy. You will find a wide variety of accessible recreation opportunities at our state parks, campgrounds, boating access sites, state game areas, trails and more. It’s time to get out and enjoy as much as we can, while we can!
