Munising Baseball/Softball program, formerly with Alger Parks and Recreation, is in the process of transitioning from Little League to 4-H. The former board members are eagerly embracing this transition and are steadfast in their dedication to assisting everyone through the process. For over a century, 4-H has stood as a cornerstone of youth development nationwide, endorsed by the USDA for its commitment to promoting healthy living. The 4-H, healthy living mission is dedicated to empowering youth and families with access to opportunities that foster optimal physical, social, and emotional well-being. Registration for Munising’s baseball, softball, and T-ball teams is now open for players aged 5 to 14 as of January 1, 2024. All skill levels are encouraged to participate, and registration will be available from March 1 to March 31, 2024. No enrollments will be accepted after the March 31 deadline. The season, spanning six weeks, will commence in May and conclude in June, with specific days and times to be determined. The registration costs vary by category: T-ball players are priced at $20, Minors, Majors, and Girls Softball at $35, and Juniors at $40. Notably, this year introduces a family cap of $55, meaning families will only need to pay fees for the first two players from the same household. Families registering more than two players will only be required to pay the two highest registration fees, with additional players being free of charge.

On Wednesday, March 20th, and Thursday, March 21st, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, there will be an opportunity to drop off payment and/or register in person using provided devices at the Alger County MSU Extension Office, located at E9526 Prospect Street, Suite 1, Munising, MI 49862, within the same building as LMAS. Registration entails a two-step process: first, register on 4-H Online, and second, pay the registration fee and submit the shirt size. A player will not be considered fully registered until both steps are completed. The registration system will prompt for health insurance information; if you have insurance, please have that information ready and enter it when prompted. If your player is not covered by insurance, you can indicate that as well during the registration process.
Any adults interested in contributing to this program, whether it’s occasionally helping out during practices or taking on more substantial roles like coaching or fundraising, must complete the MSU Extension/Michigan 4-H volunteer screening process. If you’re able to volunteer your time and skills for any of these positions, such as being on the board, coaching, assisting, keeping score, umpiring, fundraising, or even serving as a team parent, please email prunickt@msu.edu. Teens between the ages of 13 and 19 who are interested in umpiring (a paid opportunity for teens) should register as 4-H members and participate in umpire training.
If you require assistance at any point during this process, the most efficient method to obtain help is by contacting Tyreen Prunick, the Alger County 4-H Program Coordinator, at 1-906-387-2530.
