Alger Sheriff Life Saving Awards Presented

On January 31, 2024, at approximately 8:51 P.M. Alger County Dispatch received a 911 call that there was a man down in a parking lot at Munising High School. The caller, Billy Hase, stayed with the dispatcher to update that the patient was not breathing and had no pulse. Valerie Ford saw the incident and recognized that the patient needed CPR. Lynne Bowerman and Susie Palomaki also witnessed the event and went back into the high school to retrieve the AED. CPR was still in progress when the AED arrived, which they then attached to the victim and activated, delivering a shock. Clay Cook and Officer Jake Klieman were on the scene and aided in CPR until Alger EMS arrived. Alger EMS was unable to obtain a pulse and continued CPR for another two minutes along with Advanced Life Saving equipment. Transport was initiated to Munising General Hospital with improvement to the victim. We would like to recognize the following for their quick recognition that CPR and an AED were needed along with their professionalism and calmness during the call.
