Cleanup Campaign Kicks-Off This Friday Munising’s “official” Spring cleanup-fixup-paintup light-up campaign will start rolling Friday — with a send-off by the Chamber of Commerce, the new “Alger Jaycees” and local business. The drive also has the “blessings” of the city commission and the Alger County health department.

Gill Net Plan Proposed.

U.S. Secretary of the Interior James Watt ~ Outlined last Friday at a meeting in Manistee in north-western Lower Michigan his proposal for the long and often-times highly controversial Indian gill net treaty rights. Under Secretary Watt’s proposal calls for clearly delineated zones in the Great Lakes where Indian tribe members would be able to fish using gill nets and other areas where this would be forbidden.

Four Arrested for Comfort Inn Robbery The Alger County Sheriff’s Department, with assistance from the Munising City Police Department, arrested four suspects, on Monday in connection with the Comfort Inn robbery.

The suspects which are being held in the Alger County Jail on $25,000 bond are: James Lee Moore, born 4-26-81, of Ackerman; David Gordon Douglas, born 1-13-78, of Taylor; Michael Brian Korn, born 9-2-77, of Shingleton; and Joshua Clayton April, born 3-12-81, of Munising.
