The Munising Moose Lodge has initiated a new breakfast tradition with its First Sunday’s Breakfast, a monthly event spearheaded by the dedicated committee chair, Alethea Madison Shelly. In a recent interview, Alethea illuminated the motivation behind this breakfast and the positive impact it aims to cultivate within the community.
Alethea explained that the idea of hosting a monthly breakfast originated from the board’s discussions on finding effective methods to raise funds for various community needs. The goal was to amass resources readily available for supporting programs such as kids’ band camp, Boy Scouts, and food assistance initiatives. The First Sunday’s Breakfast serves as a convenient and enjoyable means to this end.
With her previous experience with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, Alethea highlights the simplicity and charm of the Moose Lodge breakfasts. Consisting of pancakes, eggs, and sausage, the event welcomes everyone and operates on a donation basis. Alethea emphasizes that the breakfast is not only a fundraising opportunity but also a social gathering, providing a space for community members to connect and enjoy a hearty meal.
The decision to host the breakfast on the first Sunday of each month was intentional, designed by Alethea for an easy-to-remember schedule. This regularity ensures that the community maintains constant awareness of the event.
When asked why she volunteered to chair this event, Alethea expressed her belief in the breakfast’s potential to impact the community positively and noted that Sundays afford her the time to commit to such a cause. She also invited others interested in volunteering on Sunday mornings, underlining that there’s always room for more helping hands.
Acknowledging the teamwork behind the success of the First Sunday’s Breakfast, Alethea commends her team for their dedication. In terms of breakfast preparation, Alethea mentions that she and her husband, Ron Shelly, handle the cooking for one crew, while Munising Moose Lodge Junior Past President, Rick Cota, manages the cooking for another crew. Plans are in place to expand the cooking team, indicative of the growing popularity and demand for this community event.
As Munising Moose Lodge prepares for the next First Sunday’s Breakfast, the committee led by Alethea Madison Shelly remains committed to making a positive impact on the community, one delicious pancake at a time.
