Public Meeting on Sucker River Sea Lamprey Barrier and H-58 Crossing Replacement

Grand Marais, MI – On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 6 p.m., a public meeting will be held at the Frank W. Mead Community Center, located at E21666 Brazel St. The United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR), and the Great Lakes Fishery Commission (GLFC) will present plans for the upcoming construction of a Sea Lamprey weir on the Sucker River.

The project, scheduled to begin in late summer 2025 and finish by fall 2025, will also include replacing the culverts under the H-58 crossing. Representatives from the USFWS, MDNR, and GLFC will be on hand to provide details, answer questions, and seek public feedback on the project.

Community members are encouraged to attend and learn more about the efforts to protect the Great Lakes ecosystem.
