American Legion Post 131 in Munising is hosting its annual arts and crafts fair on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A soup and sandwich lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Items for sale will include clay pots, suncatchers, bead bracelets, illustrations of nature, laser craft, decor, jewelry, wreaths, gnomes, baskets and more.

All vendors are from the Upper Peninsula.

Women’s Center hosts events

In conjunction with Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Women’s Center is hosting a pair of events next week.

On Tuesday, Oct. 22, the center is offering a coffee chat with its Alger advocate from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Falling Rock Cafe & Bookstore. This is an opportunity to learn about local resources available to domestic and sexual violence survivors.

On Wednesday, Oct. 23, the center’s Alger County Office is hosting an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Alger Parks and Recreation building, 413 Maple St., Suite 2, in Munising.

In addition, a survivor art display is being held through Oct. 31 at the Munising School Public Library.

DDA offers grants for decorating

All businesses in the Munising Downtown Development Authority district are eligible to apply for holiday decorating facade grants through the Munising DDA.

This event will coincide with Rekindle the Spirit, which is scheduled to take place on the evening of Thursday, Dec. 5 (the Thursday following Thanksgiving).

Applications are available through the DDA and must be turned in by noon on Friday, Nov. 8. Each application must include a brief description or summary of the business’ decorating plan.

The Munising DDA will also be holding a business decorating contest for businesses within the DDA district. Decorations must be up and complete by noon on Dec. 5 to be eligible.
