Braving the icy waters, participants in the 2025 Munising Polar Plunge exceeded expectations, raising more than $17,500 for Special Olympics Michigan, surpassing the initial goal of $16,000.
Organizers praised the dedication and enthusiasm of plungers and supporters, highlighting their commitment to spreading inclusion and making a difference in the lives of local athletes.
Event photos will soon be available on the Special Olympics Michigan Flickr account. For those who earned incentive items but did not receive them on site, shipments are expected by the end of the week.
Organizers expressed gratitude to all involved and encouraged the community to stay engaged in upcoming events.
Eben food pantry seeks donations for roof repair
The Nifty-Thrifty Food Pantry and Thrift Store in Eben Junction is in urgent need of a new roof and is calling on the community for support. The nonprofit, run entirely by volunteers, provides food assistance to those facing food insecurity and offers affordable clothing and household items. Proceeds from the thrift store cover operational costs, food purchases and direct aid to clients.
In 2024, the organization distributed Christmas baskets to 24 families and held a raffle to raise funds. However, the need for a roof replacement is immediate.
Donations can be made to the pantry’s account at Northern Lights Credit Union in Chatham. For more information on how to contribute, contact Pat Porter at 906-4463669.
