Alger County Right to Life reignites its mission

To the editor:

Alger County Right to Life (ACRTL), a dedicated pro-life organization in our community since the mid-1970s, is working to revitalize its mission and strengthen its presence in Alger County. Founded shortly after the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, ACRTL has a rich history of advocating for the sanctity of life through community events and support services, but the group has recently seen a period of inactivity. Now, with a renewed focus, ACRTL is eager to engage the community in addressing a wide range of pro-life concerns.

ACRTL embraces the motto of Right to Life of Michigan, “Life, the Other Choice,” as one of the guiding principles of its mission. This philosophy emphasizes focusing on all life — birth through natural death. The idea is simple yet profound: Make life the other choice by offering resources, education and support to help individuals choose life in challenging circumstances.

One of the ways ACRTL hopes to support this goal is by promoting the vital services provided by Pregnancy Resource Centers. These centers offer pregnancy tests, counseling, parenting classes and resources to women and families in need. They are essential in supporting women with options and practical help during unexpected pregnancies.

Today, ACRTL remains focused on addressing contemporary challenges, including physician- assisted suicide, parental rights, post-abortion healing, the availability of the abortion pill and its reversal, and human trafficking. As part of its revitalization efforts, ACRTL is committed to building awareness, education and community action around these critical issues.

As part of its strategy to engage with the local community, ACRTL will hold monthly meetings to build connections and share ideas. The next meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Jan. 7 at the Munising Baptist Ministry Center. Community members interested in learning more or getting involved are encouraged to attend.

With the support of the community, ACRTL hopes to bring renewed focus to its mission of encouraging respect for the sanctity of all human life and addressing the many challenges facing families and individuals today. Together, the group believes they can foster compassion, education and advocacy for all life choices — making “Life, the other choice” a guiding light for Alger County.
