Spiritual armor explained

There is a very familiar passage in Ephesians 6 where Paul describes the armor of God. He instructs believers to stand firm having fastened the belt of truth, wearing the breastplate of righteousness, having readiness of the gospel of peace as our shoes, keeping in all circumstances the shield of faith, putting on the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit (which is the word of God). Like many, I’ve read this passage and thought how great it is that our God has given us this might tool called the Armor of God. It’s through these tools that we can withstand the attacks and go on the offense against Satan in our lives.

However, it takes more than just putting on a suit of armor. If we too quickly pass over verse Ephesians 6:10 we soon will find ourselves exhausted and out of fight. Ephesians 6:10 says, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might” (ESV). Spiritual warfare is no joke! Satan goes against everything God desires. God wants you to be in a relationship with Him, that’s why Jesus came to us in the form of a baby, was tempted and found guiltless, died a death He did not deserve, and was resurrected from the grave. You and I could never have accomplished what Jesus did for us, and it’s only because of Jesus that we can withstand the attacks that Satan will send our way.

The key to winning spiritual warfare is to not try to do it on your own. We have to stand firm in the strength of HIS might. I will fail every time I attempt to beat Satan on my own, but with God’s might I can be victorious. Have you surrendered your will to God? That’s what it takes to be in His might. We have to give our desires, will, and thoughts over to Him and let Him lead us in ever area of our lives.
