It is important that the congregation take ownership of the ministries which are taking place here at Eden, or in your congregation. With only one person “running the show,” if something happens to that person, it all comes to a screeching halt and a lot of work needs to be done to get things going again. If there are people who take ownership of mission and ministries, things can continue to happen even if one leader is unavailable.

For the most part, the tasks are relatively easy. What seems to be most difficult is having people who are willing to show up. For that reason, I have chosen the Epiphany star word “presence” to guide us through 2024. Presence was important to Jesus, who showed up in the lives of those who needed him, and we should work to make presence in the congregation a priority. Practicing presence in the name of Christ means we look for ways to be present in the Kingdom of God here on earth, and that we are all important members of the Body of Christ, called follow the example of servant leadership that Jesus lived for us and for all people. We can’t keep going without you. The January newsletter, which you can find at www.edenonthebay.org, has a list of service and volunteer opportunities at Eden.
