A Quick Summary of Jude’s Epistle In the Bible there is a letter that Jude wrote a letter to an unnamed Christian congregation about a problem they were having. Certain ungodly people had infiltrated the church without the believers noticing, and those imposters had started causing problems.
Jude is the brother of the leader of the church in Jerusalem (James) and the half- brother of Jesus Christ. Though the letter does not say who it is addressed to, Jude probably wrote it to a specific church or group of churches filled primarily with Jewish Christians.
His stated purpose for writing is found in verses 3 and 4. He intended to write to them an encouraging and educational letter concerning what they believe about salvation. He found that it was necessary, however, to encourage them to take a firm, aggressive stand for their faith against ungodly people that had “crept in unnoticed” into the congregation.
Sometimes, God’s plans for our lives play out a little differently than we anticipate. What we intend to do is not always what we need to do, and we can change course appropriately if we are paying attention to the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
We must also be on the lookout for intruders. This is not being suspicious of everyone, but, if you pay attention and follow the path of Christ, the intruders will make themselves known to you. We must, then, contend for the faith by showing the mercy of the gospel to those with wavering faith, rescuing others from the fire of judgment through the power of the gospel, and showing mercy to all while being careful to remain unstained by sinful actions and teachings. This is the basic teaching of the book of Jude.
