The Max B of the VanLandschoot and Sons fleet prepares to leave dock, as the commercial fishing season in Alger County has begun.
Putting down nets in late April has been one of the more consistent signs of the changing of the season in the area.
Alger County has two commercial fishing licenses of the less than 15 active in the state. With two tribal fishing companies as well, Munising and Alger County is one of the hubs of fresh fish in Michigan. Local stores, food trucks and fish markets are expected to open shortly between the various companies.
