Getting Healthy Munising Style

What resolution have you made for the New Year? If you’re like most people, improving your health probably has figured into your plans for 2024. Improving fitness, eating better, losing weight and improving mental health all top the list of most common resolutions according to various polls and statistics for 2024.

But how do you get fit when you live in a small community?

Lucky, Munising offers a variety of options for getting healthier, and you don’t even need to make a resolution to get started. Let’s take a look at some options you might not have been aware are even here:

Walking at Munising Middle-High School If you like walking, look no further than the Munising Middle-High School. The building is open for walking upstairs from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Monday through Thursday.

Yoga at Down Wind Sports of Munising If you’ve ever wanted to try out Yoga for the first time, this is the place to do it. This is a gentle class, welcoming everyone no matter what your skill level. Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. with class lasting for an hour.

Fuzzy Fitness with the Alger Parks & Rec If you’re looking for a gym experience, look no further than the Alger Community Center. A low-cost membership gives you 24-hour access to a gym and several rooms full of various workout equipment.

Pickleball

If you haven’t played Pickleball yet, what are you waiting for? This is the fastest growing sport in America and is right here in Munising. Currently they’re meeting through Fuzzy Fitness (you’ll need your membership). They meet from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. every weekday, but expect sessions to last longer. Monday-Wednesday-Friday is for everyone, while Tuesday and Thursdays are set aside for people who are a little more advanced players.

Deep Blue Fitness

If you want a little more guidance in meeting your health goals, talk to Sam and Jessica Brewer at Deep Blue Fitness. They operate out of the Alger Parks and Recs Department, so you’ll need your Fuzzy Fitness membership before getting started. Deep Blue Fitness offers various classes but can also do one on one training. They’re currently running a special sixweek challenge to jump start your year, so you’ll want to get in touch with them quickly if you want to sign up and take part.

Exercise with East Channel Brewing Company Get a jump start on your fitness goals for 2024 by heading over for a quick walk or run with the East Channel Brewing Company at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday night. Pick your own pace and enjoy a bit of fresh air in good company!

Of course, there’s a hundred different ways to get out and move in a place like Munising. In the winter you’ll find all sorts of ways to hike, ski, climb, or otherwise get active. It’s all a matter of finding what you enjoy best.
