The Munising Mustang boys golf team was the best of the best at the Skyline Central Conference meet at Sage Run on Tuesday, May 23. The Mustangs put up a combined 352 for their four scoring golfers, beating out Mid Pen by 11 strokes.
Munising was the only boys team to have all five golfers shooting 100 or less on the challenging 18-hole sister course to the legendary Sweetgrass near The Island casino in Bark River. Three of the Mustangs finished in the top 10, with Hudson Rockhill taking fourth with an 84, Carter Deatsman shooting 86 and Hayden Rockhill shooting an 89.
Carson Chartier of Norway was the overall winner with 75. Stephenson’s Owen Kuchman (81) and Norway’s Evan Meyer (83) took second and third.
Munising girls program struggled at the conference championship, finishing fourth of the six schools competing. Cassidy Britton led the way for the Mustangs, but did not finish in the top 10. The Mustangs will advance to the U.P. State Finals next, which will be held next week at Oak Crest Golf Club in Norway. Munising will fight for the Division 2 state championships.
