With the loss to Munising in the MHSAA District 101 semifinals, the Big Bay de Noc Black Bears end their season with a 15-8 record. The Black Bears finished second in the recently restarted Central Upper Peninsula Conference to Superior Central, but got revenge on the Cougars in the MHSAA Tournament.
Big Bay also finished second in the regular season of the Northern Lights League, finishing behind Maplewood Baptist for the title. They were upset in the semifinals of the NLL tournament by host Hannahville before the district competition.
Big Bay was the only team to play all four Alger County high schools during the 2022-23 season, going 6-2 against Munising, Munising Baptist, SC and Grand Marais.
“They have a lot of good athletes,” Munising Head Coach Terry Kienitz said. “I expect Big Bay to be a team to beat in a few years.”
Graduating for the Black Bears will be Cam Miller and Riley Harvey. BBdN Head Coach Gunnar Mickelson said he was proud of what the two did for the program.
“They’re good kids and they have a lot going for them, but every career has to end sometime.”
