Keweenaw team wins U.S. Guts Championship Keweenaw-based Shottle Bop won the U.S Guts Frisbee Championship for the first time last weekend. Led by tournament MVP Al Nettell, the team dispatched hometown favorite Wolf Pack for the title.

This was the largest tournament field since 1983 for the U.P.created sport.

Negaunee bounced from LLWS

Negaunee won its first game at the Little League World Series, but lost to host team Shepherd (Mich.) and SE Polk County (Ia.), ending their season.

The results of the games were wins vs Richmond (Ky.) 9-2, then losing 12-0, 10-2.

Witt put on IR

Jake Witt, the seventhround draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts, was placed on season-ending injured reserve over the weekend. Witt is a former Mr. U.P.

Basketball with the Ewen-Trout Creek Panthers and the first NFL draft pick from Northern Michigan University since 1992.

NMU announces new golf coach Eric Johnson was named the new mens and womens golf coach for the Wildcats. Johnson was a threeyear captain for Wayne State (Mich.) and won GLIAC Golfer of the Year in 2013.

Johnson was living in the Marquette area for 10 years before the hiring while playing on multiple amateur tours.

Yooper loses IFL Championship Menominee and NMU grad James Brown led the Sioux Falls Storm in tackles again, but it wasn’t enough to win the Indoor Football League Championship in Las Vegas on Aug.
