Munising’s Cota leads Norse

Munising alumna Hattie Cota led the Bay College Norse at its first cross country event of the season at the St. Norbert College’s Tom Barry Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 2. Cota finished 96 of 130 runners, but was the first Norse across the line in the women’s race with a time of 23:51.54.

The Norse did not have enough women runners to collect a team score. College cross country scoring is the same as high school, taking the total placement of five runners to score as a team.

‘Hattie Cota and Devyn Lusardi did pretty well considering they went out super fast in the the first mile,’ Bay Norse Head Coach Scott Carhoun said. ‘Veronica Spreitzer paced herself real well and finished right were she was projected to be this early in the season.’

Bay College’s men’s team finished 11th of 11 teams in the race.

The Norse will compete next on September 15. They will travel to Grand Rapids for a conference meet that morning.
