A two-day men’s championship will be played at the Pictured Rocks Golf Course this weekend. Qualifying round will be 18 holes on Saturday with match play of nine holes set for Sunday. Two age divisions set of 59 and under, 60 and over with a max of 16 players in the championship flight.

Cougars lose at Rapid River

The Superior Central football team lost on the road to the Rapid River Rockets on Fri. Sept. 8 58-0. The Cougars move back home to take on Brimley (1-2) on Sat. Sept. 16 at noon. Rapid River plays at Munising tonight.

Youth football moves to McQuisten

The Munising Township Board unanimously approved hosting the 2023 Alger Parks and Recreation youth football league at McQuisten Park at its regular meeting on Tues. Sept. 6. The teams previously played at Victory field in Brown’s Addition, but better weather is expected by moving further inland.

Three announced for Ice Fest

Aaron Mulkey, Jackson Marvel and Carlos Buhler have been announced as three of the top athletes speaking at Michigan Ice Fest, one of the largest ice climbing festivals in the United States, and is held in Munising every February. The Ice Fest has announced numerous speakers, sponsors and media availability over the last month.

Man fails Michigan to Wisconsin swim

Jim “The Shark” Dreyers of downstate Grand Haven failed to swim from the lower peninsula to Milwaukee earlier this month. Dreyers had previously completed a Lake Michigan swim 25 years ago and was attempting the trek solo before bad weather disrupted the journey.
