MHA registration open

Registration is now available for the Munising Hockey Association 202324 season. The registration allows local hockey players to play with USA Hockey affiliated teams. Coop programs are possible for any age group over 10U. Register online at www.munisinghockey. org.

Mackinac sweeps Baptist

The Mackinac Island Lakers finished the regular- season sweep of the Munising Baptist Bobcats with a 3-1 victory on the island on Thursday, Sept. 21. Zeke Meskill was the lone goalscorer for the Bobcats, scoring an equalizer in the first half before the Lakers added two more before halftime. Munising Baptist will return home on Oct. 3 to host Beaver Island.

NLL soccer tournament moved

The Northern Lights League has voted to move the site of the NLL soccer postseason tournament to Big Bay de Noc high school field. Originally, the tournament was set for Beaver Island, but travel concerns for teams returning after the tournament came into play. NLL soccer teams do not compete in the MHSAA state championship.

Mustang Stadium damaged from tire

The fence surrounding the track and football field at Mustang Stadium was damaged during the football game on Friday, Sept. 22 after children pushed a tractor tire up the hill on the West side of the stadium grounds and rolled it back down across the practice field. The tire damaged the fence near the track start/finish line, pushing it inwards enough to be leaning over the most outside lane. Nobody was injured in the incident.

Munising pair see Packers win

Wayne and Kay Dausey were in attendance when the Green Bay Packers come from behind to beat the New Orleans Saints 18-17 on Sunday, Sept. 24. This was the couple’s first regular season game as Packers season ticket holders after waiting 44 years on the wait list.

Yooper named OU softball coach

Samantha Henderson was named interim head softball coach for the Oakland University Grizzlies on Fri. Sept. 22. Henderson grew up in Hancock before playing four seasons at Detroit Mercy.
