Superior Central hosts Veteran Appreciation Game

The Superior Central Cougars football team will host the 2023 Veteran Appreciation game this Saturday, Oct. 14 at noon against the Engadine Eagles. All military and veterans will be invited onto the field at halftime to honor and support neighbors and competitors who have served the country.

Grand Marais draws, loses

The Grand Marais Polar Bears soccer team drew 1-1 and lost 7-1 to the Hannahville Soaring Eagles on Fri.-Sat. Oct. 6-7. The games were important for seeding for the conference tournament, as Hannahville and Grand Marais look to try and qualify for a higher seed.

NLL soccer tournament this weekend

The Northern Lights League soccer postseason tournament will take place this Saturday at Big Bay de Noc High School. Grand Marais and Munising Baptist will compete in the tournament, but seeding is dependent on games after this week’s deadline of The Munising Beacon. Check our Facebook page for more info.

SC open gyms return

The Superior Central adult open gyms have restarted for the fall and winter seasons. Basketball will be on Sundays from 7:30-9:30 p.m. with volleyball on Thursdays from 7:30-9:30 p.m.. More information is available on the Facebook group “Adult Open Gym” with a photo of the Veterans Memorial Gymnasium.

Kingsford wins U.P. soccer title The Kingsford Flivvers defeated Marquette in penalty kicks to win the U.P. Championship, a now unofficial title after U.P. teams were able to join the MHSAA state championship tournaments this year. Tied 1-1, Kingsford won the shootout 3-2.

LSSU’s Herrington wins first CCHA honor John Herrington of Lake Superior State was the CCHA’s first Rookie of the Week. He scored his first collegiate goal at No. 9 Michigan State and led the team in shots.

Rally car racing in U.P. this weekend The Lake Superior Performance Rally, part of the 2023 American Rally Association National Championship Series, will take place in Marquette on Oct. 13-14. The event will occur in between Marquette and L’Anse with final awards at the Marquette Mountain ski hill.
