Final football game Saturday
Alger County’s final football game of the season will be Saturday, Oct. 21 in Eben Junction, as the Superior Central Cougars host the Munising Mustangs. Kickoff is at noon. Both Munising and Superior Central will be looking for strong support to end the year.
MHSAA XC finals Saturday The MHSAA U.P. Finals for cross country will be Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast in Gladstone. All six races, three divisions of boys and girls, will take place on the course. Last year, Munising and Superior Central girls team took first and second respectively in Division 3, but the Mustangs have moved up to Division 2 this year.
NLL Volleyball tournament Saturday
The Northern Lights League will host its annual volleyball tournament this year at Hannahville on Saturday, Oct. 21. Grand Marais will face Paradise in the play-in game at 8:30 a.m.. The winner will play at 9:30 against host Soaring Eagles while Munising Baptist and Ojibwe charter will play shortly after.
Hiawatha’s Fall Revenge Saturday The Munising Bay Trail Network will host its annual Hiawatha’s Fall Revenge ride on Saturday, Oct. 21 at Valley Spur. A 50-kilometer and a 100-kilometer ride will be available for fun coordinated fun rides and not for competition.
Yooper inducted to Softball Hall of Fame Steven “Pedro” Flynn of Marquette has been named to the USA Softball of Michigan Hall of Fame for his efforts in promoting and playing the sport in the Upper Peninsula. One of the last great fastpitch hurlers in the region, Flynn still plays in the Marquette Metro League.
Tech rips NMU for Miners Cup The Michigan Tech Huskies embarrassed the Northern Michigan Wildcats 62-0 last Saturday, Oct. 14. The MTU defense shined in the rivalry game, pushing the Wildcats back for -60 rushing yards in the contest. It was the 13th straight rivalry win for the Huskies.
