Lady Cougars drop game with Big Bay

Injuries have certainly been unkind to the Superior Central girls basketball team this winter. The Lady Cougars lost another player recently, and they also lost their home game with Cooks Big Bay de Noc on Thursday, Feb. 1, 40-29.

“We lost Sammy Johnson for the rest of the season, starting three freshmen and two sophomores now,” head coach Skip Rutter said. “(We had) a lot of poor decisions and turnovers. We will struggle the rest of the year offensively, but we can make up some of that ground by getting better defensively.”

The Lady Cougars were behind after each quarter break, 13-7, 26-13 and 31-22.

They had Peyton Adams lead the way with 12 points, including two three pointers. Addi Frusti put in eight points, Rory Hancock put in seven points and Breanna Swajanen added two points.

S-C (5-8 overall) played at Rock Mid-Pen on Monday, was at Bark River-Harris on Thursday, heads to Hannahville on Monday and heads to Big Bay on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
