Munising Baptist rolls to win over Delta County Homeschool

Munising Baptist’s home basketball game with Delta County Homeschool was close through much of the first quarter. A late run to end that frame gave the Bobcats the edge they needed though, and they rolled from there, claiming a 51-24 victory.

“We played against a team that was quite a bit younger than we were, so this game was a great opportunity to get playing time for the younger kids,” head coach Paul Johns said. “The first quarter got off to a rough start with so many missed opportunities due to missed layups and turnovers. We were tied 4-4, with two minutes left in the quarter, but we were able to stretch the lead to 10-4 by the end of the quarter.”

Dylan Swift had six first quarter points to help the team get off to the early lead. He sank in three treys in the second and had 13 points in the quarter, as the Bobcats built a 27-14 lead by the half.

The third quarter saw Michael Maloney hit the nets for seven points. Swift sent in four points as well and the lead grew even more, 38-16 entering the fourth.

“We started to make shots more frequently over the next three quarters, and we were able to get a more comfortable lead,” Johns said.

Swift hit one final three in the fourth and netted seven in all in that frame; giving him a game-high 30 points on the night. Maloney was able to score nine points, Ethan Swift scored four points and getting two points each was Jonny MacArthur, Tom Norton and Gabe Heyrman.

Munising Baptist was also scheduled to host Beaver Island on Tuesday, Jan. 30. However, those contests were canceled due to inclement weather for Beaver Island’s flight plan.

The Bobcats were at Ojibwe Charter in Brimley on Tuesday, travel to the DC Knights on Friday and hosts Hannahville on Tuesday.
