Superior Central girls close out season with district loss

Still nursing injuries to key players, the Superior Central girls basketball team took on host Munising in a Division 4 district semi-final contest on Wednesday, March 6. The Lady Cougars were unable to slow down the eventual district champion Lady Mustangs, and they saw their season ended 54-13 in the process.

“Going into the district game with no upperclassmen, we knew we were going to struggle offensively against Munisings’ defense, and that was the case against their starters,” head coach Skip Rutter said. “Defensively we knew we had to focus on Munisings’ two leading scorers and make the role players make shots. Credit to Munising, players that usually do not score for them stepped up and hit shots.”

The Mustangs controlled this one from the start, holding leads of 17-1, 38-1 and 48-5 after the quarter breaks.

The Lady Cougars were led on offense by Addi Frusti who had eight points, Peyton Adams scored three and netting two was Bree Swajanen.

S-C wraps up the season with a 6-16 record.

“Overall, a year filled with injuries, but this group of JV players playing varsity, never gave up and fought till the very end,” Rutter said. “We are excited for the future with this group.”
