Munising softball comes up short in opening games

The Munising softball team was able to open their new season on Friday at Felch North Dickinson. The Lady Mustangs lost the games on scores of 17-2 and 15-5, but head coach Casey Ford still found plenty to be pleased with.

The games were a lot closer than the final scores,” he said. “The team battled hard and started three freshmen that literally never picked up a bat or ball until three weeks ago.”

On the offensive side, the coach was especially pleased with his squad’s knack to make contact with the ball.

“Very few strikeouts and we put the bat on the ball a lot,” Ford said. “Kaylen Kienitz scored three times and did her job getting on base as our leadoff hitter.”

Munising was scheduled to play at Bark River-Harris on Tuesday April 23 and Rudyard on Wednesday April 24, and will play Rapid River on Friday, April 26 and Norway on Monday April 29.
