The Munising track and field teams served as hosts to their annual Under the Lights event on Friday. More than 13 teams took part in the event, with the Mustang boys placing fifth and the girls were ninth. Superior Central was also in attendance, but did not tally any team points.
For the Munising boys, Reece Cotey was second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.87 seconds and Jack Dusseault was fifth in the 200 at 25.16. Dylan Adkinson was sixth in the 200. Trevor Nolan had a fifth place run in the 800 by clocking a time of 2 minutes 10 seconds and Dan Goss and Nolan were second and sixth in the 1600 with respective times of 4:45 and 5:01. Goss led the field to a win in the 3200, timing out at 10:30.
Their top relay team was the 4×200 squad of Cotey, Adkinson, Dusseault and Zack Lindquist, as they won with a 1:36. They also had a second place 4×100 squad on runs by Cotey, Dusseault, Joe Kelley and Lindquist, with a time of 46.85.
Lindquist was fourth in the long jump at 18 feet 5.5 inches and he was also 14th in the high jump.
For the Lady Mustangs, Sabryna Smith was third in the 100 meter dash by crossing the line in a time of 13.38. Olivia Cotey was eighth in the 800 (2:44) and 10th in the 1600 (6:25).
They had the 4×100 relay team of Kate Mattson, Tessa Salo, Kaylen Kienitz and Alexandra Goss place third with a time of 56.23. Mattson, Salo, Kienitz and Smith were third in the 4×200 at 1:57 and also in third was the 4×400 squad of Mattson, Dayne Behning, Cotey and Smith, who had a total of 4:33.
Elizabeth Wing had an eighth place throw in the shot put at 26’9.75 and Piper Grabowski was 14th in the discus.
For the Superior Central boys, some highlights included Will Spranger coming in sixth in the 400 at 56.94 and CJ Adams 19th in the 100 and 21st in the 200. Cole Ozoga was 20th in the 800 and Carter Korpi placed 15th in the 1600 meter run. Connor Blomgren was 18th in the shot put, Spranger placed 16th in the high jump and Miller Lemmond was 23rd in the long jump.
For the S-C girls, Rowan Allender was 17th in the 100 and 22nd in the 200. Bree Swajanen was 20th in the 800 and 15th in the 1600. Allender also had a 19th place finish in the long jump.
