Munising tennis team competed four times last week

The Munising tennis team capped off a busy week with a tournament at Negaunee on Saturday. The shorthanded Mustangs were able to take seventh place in the event.

“Bright, warm, and full of tennis,” head coach Corinne Hoffman said. “We will take that placement since we were not able to fill a full team. This was a great way for the team to get prepared for (the conference meet).”

On Friday, Munising was in a JV tournament at Ishpeming Westwood. They had a pair of third place finishes on the day. Those being number one doubles team Caiden Curtis and Carter Rautanen and number two doubles team Blake Tyner and Nolan Dolaskie.

On Tuesday, May 14, playing at Westwood in a match, the Mustangs came up short 7-1.

Danny Goss and Frank Carlson won their match in number one doubles, on scores of 6-4 and 7-5.

“It was a great match, and they did it in two sets, usually those go into a third set, but they capitalized on each point,” Hoffman said. “Beautiful day for some good tennis.”

Munising was at a meet in Gladstone on Monday, competed in a tournament near Escanaba on Tuesday, took on Kingsford on Wednesday and heads to Ishpeming today (Friday). The UP finals are on Wednesday, May 29 in Iron Mountain.

“It is going to be a jam- packed week with matches and tournaments,” Hoffman said. “With two weeks left in the season, the team is still motivated and determined to finish strong.”
