Superior Central continued to play some good early season football last week. The Cougars were playing at Felch North Dickinson, taking on their JV team on Wednesday, September 4, and returned home with a convincing 88-14 victory.
“It shows them that when they do things that they are coached, good things happen and they see that and they want more,” head coach Todd Spranger said. “We really enjoyed being there, it was a beautiful field and a wonderful place to play. We enjoyed competing against them.”
While exact stats were not reported, according to Spranger, Gavin Vining and Aiden Korpi accounted for all of the teams’ touchdowns; mostly on running plays.
“Vining from his middle linebacker position was all over the field, making good tackles,” Spranger said. “Isaac Latvala is our nose tackle and did an excellent job of just holding down the defensive line and not allowing gains on the ground, he just plugged up the middle and did an outstanding job. The defensive backfield of Hunter Baker and Eli Valima had some really nice pass break-ups and Eli had an interception.”
All told, it was a good night on the football field for the Cougars.
“My players are young and learning a lot, it was a really good learning experience for them,” Spranger said. “They are playing faster and with more confidence. They are truly learning how to play football this year. We are seeing them improve every week, we still have a long way to go but they are eager to keep learning.”
Superior Central (2-0 overall) traveled to Rock Mid-Pen on Thursday to take on their varsity squad.
“With this being my first year, I don’t know anything about them, but I’m looking forward to going and playing against them,” Spranger said. “The kids are looking forward to it.”
