SC football records big win in Engadine

The Superior Central football team picked up another road victory last week. The Cougars defeated Engadine’s JV squad 44-6 on Wednesday, Oct. 9.

“Always good to see your team getting stronger as the game goes on,” Superior Central head coach Todd Spranger said. “I thought we came away from that game having learned some new things and executing well. We’ve done well avoiding penalties. To my memory, only one defensive offsides penalty called on us.”

The Cougars opened the scoring with a 3-yard quarterback run by Will Spranger. Engadine scored a touchdown next to tie things at 6-6, but SC regained the lead quickly, with Gavin Vining returning the ensuing kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown.

In the second quarter, Aidan Korpi scored on an 80-yard run and Spranger cashed in on a rush of 65 yards.

The second half’s only touchdown was on a 15-yard pass from Spranger to Eli Valima.

“Defense was solid,” Spranger said. “Jack Ledesma led a persistent rush that thwarted any pass attempts by the Eagles, getting four sacks and multiple pressures in the backfield.”

The Cougars will play their homecoming game at 4 p.m. Saturday against Carney-Nadeau (0-7 overall). The Wolves are just the second varsity team the Cougars will have played this year, but they should have a good chance at getting a victory. Carney-Nadeau has scored only two touchdowns this year, including one in a 71-6 loss last week to North Dickinson.

“We are looking forward to hosting Carey for our first and only home game of the season,” Spranger said.
