The Munising boys basketball team remained red hot last week.
Playing a Central Skyline Conference Large Division game at Bark River-Harris on Jan. 28, the Mustangs posted a 78-43 victory and pushed their winning streak to eight games in the process.
“Bark River is a young team but played with a lot of energy,” Munising head coach Terry Kienitz said. “They just couldn’t match our length. Carson Kienitz and Jack Dusseault kind of scored at will in the paint. It was a good balanced scoring game, and I thought they contributed to each other well, making that extra pass. We had too many turnovers and got lost on defense a few times, but [we played] a solid second half to secure the game.”
The Mustangs got their offense going early, scoring 24 points in the first quarter. In the opening frame, Kienitz had nine points, Nolan Connaughton hit a 3-pointer and scored five points and Dusseault netted four for a 24-9 lead after one.
Kienitz added eight more points in the second quarter, and by halftime the score was 37-22.
The third quarter was highlighted by 10 points from Dusseault. Connaughton netted four more, and Trevor Nolan had an and-one play as the Mustang lead was 58-33 after three.
Kienitz hit a 3-pointer in the fourth as he finished with 24 points on the night.
Dusseault scored six more points in the final frame, and he finished with 22. Nolan recorded nine points, Zach Lindquist scored six and Dylan Adkinson netted five.
Munising (13-2 overall) hosted Escanaba on Tuesday, heads to Powers North Central on Friday, travels to Manistique on Monday and will be on the road again on Tuesday, at Rapid River.
