Entering its game at Rapid River on Feb. 20, the Munising girls basketball team had lost three of its previous four contests. The Mustangs got back on track in a big way in this contest, dominating the Rockets to claim a 63-13 victory.
“Rapid is a rebuilding program, but I thought we came out with the correct intensity and execution,” head coach Matt Mattson said.
“We had a sizable 26-2 lead after the first quarter. I thought as a total unit we played well with seven different people scoring. [This] week will be a huge week for us with three home games.”
Addie Bowerman had a big opening quarter, pouring in 13 points. Dayne Behning was effective as well, netting nine of her own points, which helped Munising claim its 26-2 lead after one.
In the second, Bowerman hit for eight more points, Bailey Corcoran buried a 3 as part of her five points and Madelyn Richardson and Elizabeth Wing had four points each in the frame. Munising led 47-9 at the half.
Corcoran hit another triple in the third, and she had seven points in that quarter. Bowerman added six more points to the cause, and the score went to 60-9 entering the fourth.
The Mustangs were led by Bowerman’s 27 points. Corcoran netted 14, and Behning finished with 10. Wing scored six, Richardson contributed four, Tessa Salo scored two points and Kinley Hall added one.
Munising (16-3 overall) had three home games this week to wrap up the regular season.
The Mustangs will host a Division 4 district semifinal next Wednesday.
