The Munising boys tennis team welcomes back Corinne Hoffman for her second season as head coach.
And Hoffman welcomes a large number of athletes back from last spring, which should be advantageous once the Mustangs get into matches this season.
“I will have a majority of the team coming back from last year,” Hoffman said. “These players have a passion for the sport, and [we are] looking forward to keeping that momentum going into our season.”
On the roster this year will be seniors Dimetri Balko, Danny Goss, Carson Kienitz (the U.P. champion at No. 1 singles last season), Zach Lindquist, Scout Linsenman-McSheey, Mickeal Robinson and Cayden Wieczorek; juniors Dylan Adkinson, Jack Carlston, Caiden Curtis, Jaxon Malone, Carter Rautanen and Levi Westcomb; and sophomore Blake Tyner.
Munising hopes to open the season April 28 at Marquette. The team’s second event is scheduled for April 30 at Negaunee.
“The good ol’ fundamentals [is a focus],” Hoffman said. “Without them, it’s hard to add the finesse to build off and to encourage the next-level shots. [Also an emphasis is] matchplay strategies for our single and doubles players. [We want] to apply what players have worked on off-season and what has been done in practice. And to come off the court whether a loss or a win to know that it was a good battle on the court. We are looking forward to another ridiculous amount of fun and solid competition.”
