The Michigan State Police, in partnership with the Munising Police Department and the Alger County Sheriff’s department, invite the community to join them at Gallery Coffee Co. in Munising to have a brew with the boys in blue. This event is being held as part of the Faith & Blue initiative.

The spirit of Halloween is alive and well at Gallery Coffee Co., where the popular community spot will host its second annual Halloween Movie Nights. Following the smashing success of last year’s event, organizers are doubling down on the spooky fun with two evenings of double features, offering both family-friendly and horror- themed films.

MUNISING, MI - The picturesque shores of Lake Superior provided a stunning backdrop for the Munising Bay Cruisers’ annual car show on Saturday, September 21, 2024. The event, which has become a beloved tradition in the Upper Peninsula, drew car enthusiasts and spectators from across the region.

News that the Toonerville Trolley and Riverboat Tour is officially closing almost feels like the loss of an old friend. The business was an icon of the Tahquamenon region for nearly a century.

There is a new look for the All-Veterans Memorial at the Munising City Park! Since dressing up the memorial with a new outside fence a couple of years ago, some of the members of Vietnam Veterans of Alger County Chapter 237 felt the centerpiece should be more attractive. With the agreement of all of the members, funds were transferred to the All-Veterans Memorial for this project which culminated on September 11, 2024, with the installation of a new wrap-around fountain centerpiece. This wrap includes all of the different service insignias and was installed on the anniversary of 9/11 by the designers, Icon Signs out of Ishpeming, Michigan.

The Michigan State Police has a smiling face at the forefront of community outreach, and it’s a familiar one. Trooper Thomas Kinnunen, affectionately known as “Trooper Tom,” has recently been appointed as one of sixteen Community Service Troopers (CST) in Michigan. With a role dedicated to bridging the gap between law enforcement and the public, Trooper Tom is making a lasting impact on the communities he serves. The Munising Beacon first introduced Trooper Tom to readers back in January of 2024.
