We are pleased to announce that Elijah Lee is our Student of the Week. Elijah is a fourth grader and the son of Frankie Lee and Dustin Lee. Elijah is an inquisitive learner with a smile for all each day. He always has meaningful comments and questions to add to class discussions. Elijah is respectful to classmates, teachers and his school. He is a caring big brother that walks his little sister to class each day without fail. Elijah takes pride in his work and compliments others on their hard work too. His hockey in his free time. His considerate nature helps Elijah build lasting friendships with peers and adults. Everyone enjoys having Elijah in class! Congratulations to Elijah and his family!

Piece of Mackinac Bridge Placed at South Pole
Since the Mackinac Bridge Authority started selling pieces of the original deck grating as it’s replaced, it’s safe to say that pieces have made their way to many spots far from the Straits of Mackinac. You would be hard-pressed, however, to take one farther away than Brendan Fisher has.

Ruling negates first-degree murder conviction
Jason David Sadowski is now charged and convicted of murder in the second degree after 11th Circuit Court Judge Brian Rahilly ruled on a motion more than a month after the trial ended. In a six-page opinion, Rahilly said the prosecution did not do enough to establish premeditation as a requirement for a first-degree murder charge.

Casady retires from Women’s Center
The Women’s Center in Marquette announced Wednesday that Beth Casady, Executive Director, has retired after six years with the organization. Casady joined the Women’s Center board in 2004-2006 and again in 2015, beginning as the E.D.
