Rod Sadler didn’t plan to become a true crime author — he planned to solve crimes.

For the past four years, a growing group of Munising High School students has been shaping their understanding of civic life, policy and public speaking through the Michigan Youth in Government program.

On an otherwise quiet Wednesday night, the upper level of East Channel Brewing Company swelled with laughter, clinking mugs and the booming chorus of sea shanties.
