Mather Elementary awarded grant
Mather Elementary has been awarded a grant of up to $500 to cover the cost of two bus trips from the State of Michigan Arts and Culture Council (MACC). The grant was awarded through the MACC peer review process and was one of 711 applications to compete for MACC fiscal year 2024 funding.

MEET THE MUSTANGS
The winter edition of the Munising Meet the Team was on Monday, Nov. 27 at the Munising Middle/High School gymnasium. The event helped kicked off the winter sports season, helped get volunteers signed up for the various concession stands and addressed transportation needs for the 2023-24 season.

Creating new maple syrup equipment helps Superior Central students grow
Superior Central is upgrading multiple educational opportunities by constructing a sugar shack, specifically constructed to teach about construction trades, food preparation and local plants. The shack will be an extension of the school’s maple syrup making science projects.

MPS shows major student attendance growth
Munising Public Schools is seeing more students in the classroom more often, as chronic absenteeism has been slashed in half since the 2020-21 school year. According to a post made by Munising Public Schools Superintendent Mike Travis, the amount of students classified as chronically absent has dropped from 262 to 109.

MHSAA high school sports participation continues to exceed population ranking nationally
Michigan continued to rank 10th nationally in high school-aged population during the 2022-23 school year and continued to best that ranking in participation in high school sports, according to the annual national participation study conducted by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).
